What to expect in a class

A typical class will begin with a little centring exercise where we turn our attention inwards, release outside distractions and begin to focus on our breath with some focus on our core muscles and pelvic floor.

We'll then start to add movement, warming the body up throughly before moving mindfully through some sequences that will build strength and ease out tension. All postures are given as an invitation and I encourage you to only do what feels good for you on the day.

We'll finish the class with a relaxing guided meditation.

FAQs

  • Is Postnatal and Postpartum The Same Thing?

Essentially, yes. Both refer to the period after a baby is born.

Although if you were being  super technical you would use 'postpartum' to talk about issues for the mother and 'postnatal' for those relating to the baby.

  • Can I Do Postnatal Yoga After A C-Section/Cesarean?

Yes, please ensure your scar is completely healed, no leaking, you have been discharged by your Dr/midwife and you feel physically and mentally ready to begin exercising again.

In terms of weeks, I would expect you to be at least 6 weeks postnatal after a c-section. Although, there are gentle movements and breathing exercises you can do before this if it feels right to do so.

Please ensure to let your instructor know that you have had a c-section so they can guide you and be sure you are safe.

  • When Should I Start Postnatal Yoga?

I would suggest giving yourslef 6 weeks, whether you had a c-section/cesarean or vaginal birth.

For cesareans please ensure your scar is completely healed, and for both cesarean and vaginal I suggets you wait until your bleeding has completely stopped, this is usually around 6 weeks after birth but can be longer.

  • What Are The Benefits Of Postnatal Yoga?

  • What If I'm Not Postnatal Anymore?

If you have had a baby you are postnatal forever.

    There is no end date.

No matter how old your babies may be you are postnatal and you will benefit from postnatal specific yoga as we focus on the core and pelvic floor which form the foundation of all movement and strength.

  • What To Wear To A Postnatal Yoga Class?

Where comfortable clothes you can move easily in.

If you had a cesarean be aware of your scar and how certain fabrics may feel against it.
